Spreading the Love Part III: The Food Stories Award

Over the last two months I’ve received three awards from my fellow bloggers, and I couldn’t be more honored and humbled by all the love.  Thank you First, I’ve twice received the Sunshine Award (for spreading kindness and inspiration) from Judee at Gluten Free A-Z and Heather at Gluten Free Cat, second the Food Stories Award (for excellence in story telling) from Caralyn at Gluten Free Happy Tummy, and third the Addictive Blog Award (for interesting, creative content) from Minnie at The Lady 8 Home.  Now it’s my turn to spread some loveand you know I’m always up for that.  In this post I pass on the Food Stories Award.  See here for Spreading the Love Part I (The Sunshine Award) and here for Part II (The Addictive Blog Award).

Award #3:
The Food Stories Award

(Excellence in Storytelling Award, nominated by Caralyn at Gluten Free Happy Tummy).  Check out her blog when you get a chance.  It’s full of amazing recipes, including BED and SCD.  Thanks you, Caralyn

My nomination for The Food Stories Award:
Farty Girl

When I received this award I immediately knew which blogger I wanted to nominate.  She’s one of my favorite bloggers with food stories that can make me both sink deep into thought or laugh out loud.  I love her honest, authentic posts that are generally a mix of healthy recipes, thoughts on life, what she’s struggling with and/or conquering, and of course, toots.  It’s Farty Girl my friends, and if you haven’t had the pleasure of visiting her blog, you must do so.  I greatly admire her unwavering dedication to healing her IBS, and her journey to find the best balance of all things health.  She also reminds me of some of my closest “real life” friends, so I can’t help lovin’ this girl.  So thank you Farty Girl for always inspiring me, and sharing your smart, fun and REAL stories on love, life, food (and toots).

Spreading the Love Part II: The Addictive Blog Award

In this post I pass on the Addictive Blog Award.  See here for Spreading the Love Part I (The Sunshine Award) and here for Part III (The Food Stories Award).

Award #2: The Addictive Blog Award

Thank you Minnie from The Lady 8 Home for the nomination!

The rules for the Addictive Blog Award are: Thank the person who nominated you and link them back.  Share a little bit about why you started blogging.  Copy and paste the award onto your blog.  Nominate up to 10 other bloggers you think are addictive enough to deserve the award. This is a fun award to pass on to other bloggers.  It’s a nice way to expand your blogging community, introduce your readers to new blogs, and of course, spread some love.  No pressure to continue on and nominate other bloggers.  But it’s fun and always awesome to make someone smile.

Why I started blogging:  I started blogging for several reasons: (1) to create a special place to keep and reference my recipes, (2) to share my recipes with others, (3) and perhaps most important, to connect with other people/bloggers struggling with disease and/or also living an alternative foods lifestyle.

Here are my nominees

1.  Kathy from: Kathy’s Table.  When I found Kathy’s blog, I looked through all her posts.  It’s a blog of great interest to me, as Kathy also has Crohn’s disease and shares SCD recipes, but she also throws a few classic dishes in there from time to time.  Her love of cooking and healthy cuisine is addictive!
2.  Dawn from: Cuter than Gluten.  Dawn is a new blogger, and just released a cookbook Culinary Creativity.  How exciting.  Her blog and recipes are very fun and creative and I look forward to watching her blog grow.

3.  Zoe from: Z’s Cup of Tea.  I just recently found Zoe (via Shirley) and I’m so glad I did.  Her recipes are dairy free, gluten free and SCD.  She’s a super creative cook and I admire her passion for family and health.

4.  Sarah from: The Cyclist Wife. Sarah is a local blogger and one of my friends.  I am nominating her blog because her posts are fun, amusing, and eclectic.  You’ll find yourself reading post after post and smiling all along the way.

5.  Allergy-Friendly Taste Buds.  Offers recipes that are free of: nuts, peanuts, dairy, sugar, gluten, citrus, eggs and soy.  WOW! Allergy-Friendly Taste Buds also highlights recipes from other bloggers, so I always find something new and great on her site.

Spreading the Love Part I: The Sunshine Award

Over the last two months I’ve received three awards from my fellow bloggers, and I couldn’t be more honored and humbled by all the love.  Thank you!  First, I’ve twice received the Sunshine Award (for spreading kindness and inspiration) from Judee at Gluten Free A-Z and Heather at Gluten Free Cat, second the Food Stories Award (for excellence in story telling) from Caralyn at Gluten Free Happy Tummy, and third the Addictive Blog Award (for interesting, creative content) from Minnie at The Lady 8 Home.  Now it’s my turn to spread some loveand you know I’m always up for that.  In this post I pass on the Sunshine Award.  See here for Spreading the Love Part II (The Addictive Blog Award) and here Part III (The Food Stories Award).

Below are the 10 bloggers I am presenting with the Sunshine Award.  (Please note that you do not have to continue on here and nominate bloggers.  It’s a nice way to spread the love, but it’s not mandatory – so no pressure).  I know we are all super busy with life and families.  But it’s all good, and my pleasure to share these amazing bloggers with you.

Award #1: The Sunshine Award

“The Sunshine Award is an award given by bloggers to other bloggers. The recipients of the Sunshine Award are: “Bloggers who positively and creatively inspire others in the blogoshere.” The way the award works is this: Thank the person who gave you the award and link back to them. Answer 10 questions about yourself. Select 10 of your favorite bloggers, link their blogs to your post and let them know they have been awarded the Sunshine Award!”

Here are the questions attached to the Sunshine Award and my answers:

  • 1. Favorite Color:  Every shade of green.  Love it.
  • 2. Favorite Animal:  Dogsand I think giraffes are pretty awesome.
  • 3. Favorite Number: 12 (my birth-day)
  • 4. Favorite Drink:  Now: anything tart and cold.  Pre-Crohns: A tall glass of Guiness beer.
  • 5. Facebook or Twitter:  Facebook.  I haven’t started my Twitter account yet.  I know “karazy girl”
  • 6. Good Movie or Good Book:  Summer, I love a good movie.  Winter, I’m all about the books.
  • 7. My passion:  Some of you might know this from reading my “About Amber” page, but I’m a licensed clinical therapist (L.C.S.W.) and my passion is, hands down, helping others and being a part of healing and change.  I love my field and this aspect of myself and my life – it’s quite fulfilling.  I appreciate being a part of the healing process with individuals, families, children, etc.  It ignites my heart in a way I can’t quite explain.  I’m currently a stay-at-home mommy, but I very much look forward to going back to work when my children are a little older (and both in school).  I’m also very passionate about the environment and issues concerning the preservation of natural resources.  Lastly, and perhaps most obvious, food is a passion.  And I think this blog pretty much sums that up.
  • 8. Giving or Getting presents:  Okay, who doesn’t LOVE to get gifts, it’s awesome.  But, I love to give gifts a little more.  Here’s why.  I’m the type of person that puts  A LOT of thought and time into gifts, so it’s fun for me to present someone I love with something awesome.
  • 9. Favorite Day of the Year:  My birthday of course, because it’s the one day where it’s all about me.  My kids make me like 500 cards, wrap things up from around the house and present them to me (quite enthusiastically), my husband makes breakfast (and  takes me out to dinner), and my best girlfriend treats me to lunch and a pedicure (and if I can manage, I’ll go out dancing with my girlfriends and rock the town…if I don’t fall asleep by 10:30 pm that is).  How awesome is that!?
  • 10. Favorite Flower: Sunflowers…for as long as I can remember.  :-)

Here are my nominees for the Sunshine Award

1.  Heba from: My Life in a Pyramid.  I just adore Heba.  She radiates joy and you can feel her passion for food and health in each post.  She shares amazing recipes that always inspire.  Heba is also passionate about holistic health (something we have in common) environmental issues such as sustainable agriculture, and the local food movement.

2.  Cassidy from: Cooking Gluten and Dairy Free.  Cassidy’s blog is full of knock-your-socks off yummy recipes.  I love how she will take a traditional, unhealthy food (like Pop Tarts) and make an amazing healthy version.  She is passionate about baking too which I appreciate and find helpful (as baking is not my forte).

3.  Lillian from: Lillian’s Test Kitchen.  I started watching Lillian from the beginning (it must be close to three years now).  If you haven’t seen her blog and videos, you must (go there now).  She makes recipes on camerafor the first time (all recipes free of: grains, dairy, soy and cane sugar).  She reminds me of someone I would be good friends with in real life.  She always makes me laugh – she’s witty, honest and authentic.  And her show is so creative and fun.  I love Lillian!

4.  Stephanie from: Good Girl Gone Green.  Green living is a big part of my life, my kitchen, and my blog, so I totally appreciate and love Stephanie’s blog.  I just feel happy visiting her site and thankful for her environmental passion and amazing, healthy recipes.

5.  Debbie from: Easy Natural Food.  Debbie is another local blogger.  She is the lovely host of Sunday Night Soup Night and currently, Summer Salad Sundays.  She makes the most delicious recipes with seasonal ingredients.  She’s such a warm, kind person and I’ve enjoyed getting to know her through blogging and emails.

6.  Rebecca from: Peanut Butter, Passports and Epinephrine   I love Rebecca’s spirit.  She’s incredibly adventurous and her photography captures her travels and creative recipes.  You’ll feel warm and happy after looking through her gorgeous pictures.  I always do.

7.  Kammie from: Sensual Appeal.  Kammie’s blog is full of beautiful photography (well, this is her passion).  Kammie is also a full time student (double majoring in psychology and advertising).  She’s a busy lady, but still has time to share insights on health, delicious, healthy recipes, and her new adventures in the kitchen (which she discuses with charm and honesty).  I love this girl and her spirit!

8. Gabby from: The Veggie Nook .  It’s hard not to fall in love with Gabby’s blog.  It’s so clean and pretty with lovely photography, but what keeps me coming back are her recipes which are made up of mostly vegan, whole unprocessed foods.  And she always leaves kind, friendly comments, which I appreciate.

9.  Lisa from: Allergy-Free Vintage Cookery.  Lisa shares such a wealth of information on the allergy-free lifestyle, for example, her collection of posts discussing allergy-free basics, tips and suggestions, support, etc.  Lisa also provides wonderful recipes for her family despite the many food allergies she has to navigate (she talks more about that here).  Lisa shares her experiences with honesty and humoralways making me smile.

10.  Lauren from: Empowered Sustenance.  Lauren is a new blogger on the scene, and I couldn’t be more happy to find her.  Lauren has taken health and healing into her own hands and is determined to heal from IBD.  I’m right there with you girlfriend!!  Lauren’s recipes are SCD/GAPS, sugar free, grain free and anti-candida.  Take THAT disease!  I thoroughly enjoy her recipes so far and look forward to many more to come.

The Liebster Blog Award – sharing our wonderful blogging friends!

Thank you to my friend Lisa @ Allergy-Free Vintage Cookery, I’ve been tagged with the Liebster Blog Award again!  I just adore Lisa and her blog.  She’s a down-to-earth mama that provides fantastic, healing meals for her family (with multiple food allergies).  Please check out her blog when you get a chance.  And you can see Lisa’s other nominations here.

Liebster is a German word for “Good Friend,” and I am so humbled that Lisa passed this award on to me.  Each recipient is supposed to pass the award to five blogs.  See below for my picks.

If you’ve already been tagged by this award, don’t feel pressured to create another nomination list.  I was tagged for the first time just a couple months after I started my blog.  Things are very different for me this time around, as I have so many more connections and relationships with other bloggers.  So I felt compelled to share some of my new favorite blogs, especially in the SCD community.  I can appreciate how busy we all are.  That being said, thank you for your blogs and sharing your great recipes!

In good kindness (If it works for you at this time):
1. Thank the giver and link back to the blogger who gave it to you.
2. Reveal your 5 picks and let them know by leaving a comment on their blog.
3. Copy and paste the award to your blog.
4. This is a great way to spread love and goodness to other bloggers.
5. Have fun.

I’m passing this award on to these 5 fabulous blogs:

1) Kalinda @ Wheat Free Meat Free
Kalinda serves up some awesome gluten free and vegetarian recipes.  She cooks for Mike who has Celiac Disease.  Kalinda’s sister also shares gluten-free, vegetarian recipes from time to time.  Kalinda also features a weekly recipe round-up, helping us out with our weekly meal planning.  You can read more about Kalinda here.

2) Jen @ My Big Fat Grain Free Life
Intestinal problems prompted Jen and her family to move into grain free and specific carbohydrate eating.  Recipes on her blog are free of gluten, refined sugar, soy, corn, and casein (mostly).  She’s my “zoodles” gal.  I love Jen’s sense of humor too.  Andshe’s a new mommy again (a newly adopted baby girl).  She’s a busy lady, but still makes time to provide us with great recipes.  You can read more about Jen here.

3) Danielle @ Against All Grain
Danielle’s probably my closest blogging buddy.  We both live in California (not too far away from each other).  And we both fight IBD through holistic healing and diet.  Danielle’s recipes are beautiful and so creative.  If you thought SCD was restrictive, you’ll be blown away by her creations!  You can read more about Danielle here.

4) Vicky @ Gluten Free, SCD and Veggie
My SCD friend all the way in the UK.  Vicky has been a vegetarian for 30 years and raised 3 children.  In 2006 her youngest son was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease.  Thanks to Vicky’s dedication to healing, her son thrived on a SCD/Vegetarian diet (but now all grown up and at University and continuing this healthy lifestyle)! Vicky also highlights herbs and spices on her blog which  I LOVE.  Please check out her awesome SCD and vegetarian recipes!  You can read more about Vicky here.

5) Megan @ MAID in Alaska
Food allergies?  My pal Megan is your gal.  Gluten, dairy, corn, soy, potato, tomato, peanut, and (mostly) refined sugar free recipes.  Megan also shares her experience and healing journey with psoriatic arthritis.  She has an awesome bread recipe on her blog that you’ll surely love, so check out her creations when you can.  Megan is such a supportive blogging friend!  You can read more about Megan’s story here.

Thanks again, Lisa, for the nomination.

The Liebster Blog Award

What an honor from Tessa The Domestic Diva who chose my blog, along with 4 other fabulous blogs, for the Liebster Blog Award!  Thank you Tessa!!  Please check out Tessa’s blog.  She’s a fabulous mommy of three with a wonderful blog showcasing her delicious, easy and allergy-friendly recipes.

I started The Tasty Alternative a few months ago after years of alternative cooking.  The motivation and inspiration that once encircled me was dangling by a mere thread.  I needed something more! I was in need of inspiration and a feeling of connection to others who, out of necessity or other reasons, follow an alternative food lifestyle.  Blogging offers me this validation and connection to so many kind and talented folks dedicated to health, family and alternative cuisine.

Here are 5 wonderful blogs that have fewer than 200 followers. Please take the time to check them out.
A Life Without Ice Cream
Gluten, Dairy, Sugar Free
Char’s Kitchen
Dairy Free Betty
The Cyclist’s Wife
The Liebster award originated in Germany. The word “Liebster” is a term of endearment meaning “dearest”, “beloved” or “favorite.” The aim of the award is to bring attention to blogs with fewer than 200 followers.

To accept the award Thank your Liebster Blog Award presenter on your blog, then

  1. 1.  Link back to the blogger who awarded you.
  2. 2.  Give your top 5 picks for the award
  3. 3.  Inform your top 5 by leaving a comment on their blog.
  4. 4.  Post the award on your blog.
