Hello and welcome to my “Homemade Lotions & Natural Beauty Products” page. Here you will find all my non-toxic, homemade lotion recipes, along with other recipes for a natural beauty regimen.
When my son, Ethan, was 3 months old he developed terrible eczema. My husband and his family suffer from eczema, so this was not a huge surprise. My husband and I both felt very passionate about healing Ethan naturally and opted out of using steroids for his condition. One very important element in his healing was homemade lotion. Ethan is now 5 years old and through holistic healing he has found relief and remission from eczema. He is also on an allergy free diet which is (gluten free, dairy free, cane-sugar free, peanut free, and soy free), and we are 100% convinced that his diet along with healing homemade lotions and fish oils have helped his body heal from eczema and continues to help him to fight off flares. My lotions are very popular posts on my blog, and it’s my pleasure to share all of them here with you. You can read about Ethan’s eczema journey HERE.

Would you have a recipe for making a “soap that’s not a soap” for washing hands? I work around the house, kitchen, etc. and need to wash my hands frequently but the regular soap dries out my hands. Do you have an alternative? Thank you.
Hi Laurie. Really good question. My husband gets dry hands really easy too. You can do a couple of things. But first is prevention. Be proactive with your hand moisture. At night lather your hand with nourishing oils and lotions and cover with cotton gloves. During the day during all these washing, yes, try a different soap, but also have a lotion you can apply right after you wash. Even some coconut oil will help. Regular soap is terrible for skin! A couple of years ago I started using African Black soap. I like it because it doesn’t have a bunch of nasty ingredients. Below is a link. I find it at my local health food store. So to recap, your best defense against your dry hands is nightly moisturizing, trying less trying soap (such as the african black soap), and applying moisture to your hands during the day. If you feel like your hands are still dry with the african soap, add in some argan oil.
Good luck!!

Amber, in order to reduce toxins, what do you use for dish soap, laundry detergent, etc?
Hi Marcie,
For laundry detergent I use Planet Ultra Powedered laundry soap, for hand soap I use African black soap, and for dish soap I use whatever is biodegradable and has the least offensive ingredients. I hope this helps. 🙂
Greetings, Miss Amber. I found your blog while searching for eczema remedies. The post I read was from December of 2011 concerning the use of colloidal oatmeal. I recalled that as a wee lad my mom would give me oatmeal baths so was excited at your mention of an upcoming post of your eczema cream recipe.
I may be missing it on your site, but I cannot find that recipe. Can you point me toward it, or possibly email the recipe?
Thank you for your wonderful site.
