I have a treat for you on this greenest of all green holidays, St. Patrick's Day. Or like most of America refers to it, beer day or get your drink-on day (usually in the form of green beer). But we're still getting our green-drink on here folks, but green smoothie style!
Leading health nutritionist and green smoothie creating expert, Hilary Greenleaf, recently contacted me and generously offered my readers three copies of her new eBook: The New Green Smoothie Diet. And you know I'm a sucker for all things green, including decreasing waste (so hooray for eBooks)!
I've read through this book, and in addition to the many wonderful smoothie recipes, it's jammed packed full of health information, tips, suggestions, and a helpful Q&A section. I know my readers love smoothies, but do you ever wonder about the ingredients you put in your smoothie? What the ingredients are good for and how exactly they affect your body? Hillary has got you covered. Check out what you'll find in her book:
*Weight loss + smoothie recipes
*Detoxifying the body + smoothie recipes
*Increasing energy + smoothie recipes
*Fight heart disease + smoothie recipes
*Prevent certain cancers + smoothie recipes
*Boost the immune system + smoothie recipes
*Protect against diabetes + smoothie recipes
*Make skin and hair beautiful + smoothie recipes
I made four of her smoothies and they were delicious!
1. Blackberry Lettuce Smoothie
2. Mighty Citrus Smoothie
3. Energy Booster
4. Basic Detox Smoothie:
-2 cups green leafy vegetables
(I used spinach)
-2 tablespoons of cleansing herbs
(I used dandelion greens)
-2 cups cubed fruit, fresh or frozen
(I used frozen strawberries)
-1 small apple
(I used a green apple)
-3 stalks of celery
(the celery flavor was subtle and fresh)
-2 cups water
I highly recommend Hilary's book to anyone looking to incorporate green smoothies into their diet, and with a health-full purpose. It's user friendly, easy to read, and packed full of healthy information.
