East Coast Girl's Trip With My Daughter (and I seriously can't stop thinking about Babycakes)

Big sigh...
I love New York City.  I went there for the first time 5 years ago with my dear friend Moe.  We both fell in love with this great City.
Here we are:

Fast forward 5 years.  Last November Skylar's best friend moved to Litchfield Connecticut and my BFF sister moved to New York City.  So of COURSE I had to visit.  And I took my daughter along for the trip.  She was the perfect little traveler.  She had such a blast.  What special memories of our first mother-daughter adventure.  Here is a little recap of our East Coast fun.

Here is Sky on her first plane ride

Our first stop: Litchfield Connecticut to visit our friends.
What beautiful country.
Exploring the Sharon Audubon.
We had a picnic lunch and went on a small hike.

A few days later...it was off to NYC.
Here we are headed to Grand Central Station.
This also marks Sky's first train ride
Here is Sky at Grand Central Station - so beautiful.
From Grand Central we all
met my sister at the
American Museum of Natural History
Walking across the street to Central Park

After some fun exploring Central Park, our friends headed back to Connecticut.
It was so fun being together again!
We walked back to our Hotel from Central Park
(only a few blocks away)
For our evening activity, we visited my sister's
boyfriend at his Restaurant: La Mar
(located on Madison Avenue)
The famous Flatiron building was across the street.
In for the night after a very long day...
Sky just loved staying at the hotel.
The next day (Thursday, May 31), we toured the city.
It was out to breakfast, then off to the world famous toy store: FOA Schwarz
Of course we stopped for a few photo ops!

Auntie and Sky

Then we got lunch to go (from Whole Foods) and had a little picnic in Central Park

That night we went to the Broadway musical: Marry Poppins.
It was AMAZING!!!
We rode on a rickshaw to the show.
Such a fun way to see the city.
Also an awesome way to breeze
through Times Square.

Times Square

I love this picture of Sky and her Auntie!!

Friday (June 1) we were exploring superstars, trekking all over Manhattan.
First stop that morning, the New York Library (such a gorgeous building)

Then we headed to Union Square for thrift shopping and lunch in the park
(I stopped at a Babies R Us and purchased a small umbrella stroller for Sky.  Mommy and Auntie liked to walk super fast and for long, long distances, so this worked perfect for us to speed through the City).
Then it was off to Coney Island to see the Ocean
Waiting for the subway
Sky on the subway
Well, Coney Island was very, very windy.
So we didn't spend much time on the beach,
but it was fun to see the Atlantic Ocean
Mommy photo op
From Coney Island we went to a vegan bakery I was VERY excited about called Babycakes.  They make allergy-friendly desserts (gluten free, soy free, dairy free, egg free, cane-sugar free).  Hands down the BEST cupcake I've ever had in my life - I nearly cried.  Absolutley amazing.  I can't stop thinking about these cupcakes.

Walking and thrifting around The Lower East Side

Our last day (sniff, sniff)
Exploring an outdoor market on 6th Ave.
Auntie had to head to work, so I took Sky to
Lincoln Center and the New York City Ballet
to look around.

Then we headed over to Auntie's work in
the fashion district.
Bryant Park was across the street

For our last stop, I took Sky to The Museum of Modern Art.
So awesome!
Here are just a few of my favorites:

We took a limo to the airport (how cool are we)! We were waiting in line for a taxi outside the hotel and a limo driver was looking for people going to JFK.  We shared the limo with a super cute and fun couple from Rome.

And here we are at the airport.
I had Sky pose for one last picture.

Since the trip I've been experimenting with my own Babycakes inspired cupcakes and cakes.  I watched this video (the first one) and found the wet ingredient ratios.  I've been working hard on putting together the correct dry ingredient ratios...but by George I think I've got it, and I look forward to sharing my recipe with you soon.

Oh my gosh- I can't imagine my daughter making it through 1/2 of that day in NYC! I have a Babycake's cookbook- and I have yet to make a recipe. I must get to it... And write a post on it when I do. I've never been to the bakery.

The only other Babycake's location is in Disney World in Florida, and it's one of the highlight of our yearly trips! I bought the cookbook, but there is just something about going into the bakery and knowing you can purchase absolutely anything in there and know that it's safe that I adore!! I'll usually buy a box of assorted goodies and eat them throughout the week...so much better than a Mickey Ice Cream bar!!

  6. what a super time you had, lucky girls:) I have baked from the Babycakes cookbook in the UK and the recipes work - yay! Even non vegan friends who eat wheat enjoy them and can't tell that they aren't "normal":)
